Tri-Sure, a leader in the packaging industry based in the Netherlands, recently raised $5,000 to donate to the packH2O project. Tri-Sure, founded in 1919, has been dedicated to safer and environmentally packaging solutions. Donating to packH2O was the ideal continuance of their environmental mission. The donation was sent to Partners for Care, a packH2O partner who works directly with communities in need in Kenya. Focusing on schools, the packs have already positively impacted many lives.

Some of the packs donated went to straight to local schools so the children could have access to safer water. For some of the children of the Marurui Primary Schools it is the first time they’ve had water out of a tap, and the packs brought them shear joy. The school had no water, and there were days when the children had to go a whole day without drinking water. Now the students not only have a way to store drinking water, but also a way to help ensure the children are not infected with waterborne illnesses.

Partners for Care was also able to distribute 350 of the water backpacks to northern Kenya. Marsabit is a desert region that is is one of the most desperate water stressed areas in the world. The women sometimes have to walk up to 5 hours in search of water, and generally have to source from surface water which is muddy and contaminated. The children are underweight and are receiving supplemental food from the World Health Organization.

“We were also able to take 350 water backpacks to northern Kenya to a desert area called Marsabit. This area is one of the most desperate water stressed areas in the world. The women walk sometimes up to 5 hours in search of water. They source for surface water which is muddy and contaminated. The children are under weight and are receiving supplemental feedings from the World Health Organization. The water backpacks are being used both for transport and safe water and for hand washing” Connie Cheren-CEO/Founder-Partners for Care

The water backpacks are being used both for transportation, safer water, and hand washing. With the ease of carry, the 5 hour journey in search for water is made easier to bear. In one beautiful story, an elderly mother was able to wash her hands for the first time in 62 years. This donation from Tri-Sure is helping to bring this region one step closer to solving the water crisis and empowering communities throughout Kenya to have a healthier, more fulfilling life.
