November 29th was an exciting day for PackH2O. Our manufacturer Greif and former President, Bill Clinton, came together with Partners in Health and New Albany, Ohio to raise awareness on a number of issues. One of the most important being Haiti.

Our summer intern, Juli Sasaki, introduced Dr. Farmer when he spoke earlier in the afternoon at the New Albany High School. Dr. Farmer gave students from the Greater Columbus Area a window into his life up to Partners In Health, his strong connection to Haiti and why everyone should be focusing on a positive path forward for the future.

“It’s a grave mistake to think a broken country is full of broken people.” Mr. Clinton said at the beginning of his speech at the Remarkable Evening event at the Wexner Family Barn.

The water backpack was originally conceived in Haiti. We have a deep connection with helping the community as much as possible.

PackH2O partnered with the New Albany School District to raise $25,000 to support the Zanmi Beni Orphanage in Haiti. The orphanage was a combined effort of Clinton Global Initiative, Partners In Health and Operation Blessing. All proceeds went towards making the orphanage sustainable.

CGI has supported Greif’s efforts with the water backpack from the beginning. “They have developed this backpack to carry water, which may sound like nothing to you, but hundreds of millions of women every day travel long distances with heavy jugs on their head, hurting their health, and spilling a lot of water, because they don’t have something like a functional environmentally clean backpack.” Clinton said about the current Haiti water crisis.

Dr. Paul Farmer of Partners In Health and Bill Horan of Operation Blessing were also in attendance at this event.

Farmer, Clinton and Horan have all stood behind the pack, allowing us to research in Haiti and other areas to ensure we have created the best possible product at a low cost. Out of inspiration from them is where our business model has stemmed. For every backpack donated, a portion of the money goes to support our deployment partners.
